A defective clutch actuator is often the cause of Mercedes A-Class gearbox / transmission failure. poor to no gear selection, vehicle non-start and the showing of the F light instead of the selected gear are common symptoms of a failure of the unit. Fault codes can be found when scanning the vehicle, including: P1784 – Clutch actuator defective, P0700 ? General system fault / position control error, however this unit can often fail to communicate with diagnostic tools.
