Mercedes A-Class transmission and gear shifting issues are often caused by a faulty clutch actuator. Limited to no gear selection, and even vehicle non-start, are common symptoms. The clutch actuator will often fail to communicate when using scanning devices, including instances where the device communicates fault codes you will often see : P1784 Clutch actuator defective and P0700 General system fault.
